They fail to understand what "sin" even is! (it's "falling short" of the Law, and not doing to others as you would have done to you). They assume it's some "deliberate" "rebellion" (and focused on certain acts, such as obeying authority, and especially anything sexual), and not only do they end up too hard on people like children, but on the total other hand, this is how they end up excusing stuff like racism and colonialism, and even sexual scandals, for it's possible to "slip" and still be justified, just as long as you aren't "practicing" the sin, or doing it "deliberately".
